  • Ibavi or Ibavini were the inhabitants of Ibav. They were a fiercely conservative and moralistic nation with a very long and illustrious history, and did not appear to be closely related to any other people in the known world. Historically, Ibav was a strong absolute monarchy dominated by the priests of the Master of Darkness, but by the last millenium of the Third Age the nations was effectively ruled by the priesthood. Ibav was thus known as the Land of Dark Tradition because of the fierce devotion to their faith and their xenophobic isolationism. Ibavi were divided into 12 tribes, of which only eight remained in the land of Ibav. The kingdom's capital was located in the city of Maalthawun. Other cities in Ibav included Mayirwalay and Ganaythawun. The Ibavi viewed all outsiders as barbarians, even their distant relatives the Nargaathi of Gaathgykarkan. Their land was very poor and had few major trading centers, largely because of their negative view towards contact with the outside world. Because of Sauron's corruption of Ibav, it was generally considered one of the most unsavory nations of Endor, and was frequently avoided by outsiders. Ibavin society was dominated by their conservative religious and moral views. Women had almost no rights, and there was a harsh and rigid social structure in place. Most Ibavi were farmers, and their diet consists of cereals and grains. The Ibavi climate was temperate but continental, meaning that there was often great fluctuation in temperature between the seasons.
