The Six Chair Challenge in Series 12 took place in Manchester's SSE arena on September 1 and 2. 64 acts faced the Six Chair Challenge; 16 Girls, 16 Boys, 17 Overs and 15 Groups. The episodes were broadcast on 4, 11, 18 of October. At the start of the challenge, the judges discovered that Rita Ora had the Girls, Nick Grimshaw had the Boys, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini had the Groups and Simon Cowell had the Overs, much to his dismay.

On 15 October, it was announced that Mason Noise would replace Bleasby at Judges' Houses.
