Kaminski gives a chronological analysis of the development of the scripts for each of the Star Wars films. Beginning in 1973 with George Lucas penning "The Star Wars" based on Akira Kurosawa's film The Hidden Fortress and finishing with the 2005 premiere of Revenge of the Sith, he uses the The Annotated Screenplays and Jonathan W. abstract
  • Kaminski gives a chronological analysis of the development of the scripts for each of the Star Wars films. Beginning in 1973 with George Lucas penning "The Star Wars" based on Akira Kurosawa's film The Hidden Fortress and finishing with the 2005 premiere of Revenge of the Sith, he uses the The Annotated Screenplays and Jonathan W. Rinzler's The Making of Star Wars books as his main sources, along with many interviews with George Lucas, Gary Kurtz and Mark Hamill. There is particular attention paid to Lucas and his revelations about the origins of Star Wars, especially how they continually change despite Lucas's assertions to the contrary, The book gives quite a number of revelations that may be surprising to fans, such as the origins of the characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Yoda and Anakin Skywalker. Kaminski also documents the varied critical reactions the films received as well as a limited discussion on the production of the films. Contained in the appendices of the book are several essays on the origins of Darth Vader, the development of the Journal of the Whills and a timeline documenting the chronological story of the Star Wars scripts.
