Kathy Kirby (born Kathleen O'Rourke; 20 October 1938 – 19 May 2011) was an English singer, reportedly the highest-paid female singer of her generation. She is best known for her cover version of Doris Day's "Secret Love" and for representing the United Kingdom in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in second place.Her physical appearance often drew comparisons with Marilyn Monroe. She peaked in popularity in the 1960s, when she was one of the best-known and most recognised personalities in British show business.

  • Kathy Kirby was an English singer who was best known for her cover of Doris Day's "Secret Love" and for her physical appearance which drew comparisons to Marilyn Monroe. She became one of the biggest stars of the early to mid-1960s, appearing in the Royal Command Variety Performance and three television series for BBC TV. She represented her home country in the 1965 Contest in Naples, finishing as runner-up to Luxembourg's France Gall. Post-Contest, she recorded more than a dozen singles, but they all failed to chart. During the 1970s her singing career was eclipsed by a turbulent personal life, but she made occasional television appearances and performed a few live concerts on the "nostalgia circuit". On 31 December 1976, she performed her hit song "Secret Love" on BBC1's A Jubilee of Music, celebrating British pop music for Queen Elizabeth II's impending Silver Jubilee. In December 1983 she gave one last concert in Blackpool, then retired from show business altogether. She developed schizophrenia in her latter years and died on 19 May 2011, a few days after moving to Brinsworth House.

Her star extinguished in the late 60 's, though she took 12 more singles and an album on between 1967 and 1973, no single became a hit. The death of her manager Ambrose was a heavy shock for her. In 1977 she left again is stirring when it became known that she was bankrupt. She retired from show business and returned occasionally again. In 2005 she came back with an official website and a biography called Secrets, Loves and lip gloss. She lived until her death in 2011 in London.
