He primary produced water... no, farmed moisture and sold it to have enough money to drink. He was a relative of Wormie and Annie, whose degenerated behavior was partly due to his alcoholism (dude, he drank a barrel of beer and gave the rest to Wormie's pets, or poured it on Annie's girlfriend). So, when Wormie's womp rats died of methyl posioning and Amidala went crazy, the two children beat Lajos up and stole his pub money, which eventually led to the Battle of the Skywalker moisture farm.
