The Republic of Kurdistan was founded on the 1st November 2020 after the Independence Referendum on the 12th March 2019. A Referendum was originally planned in 2014 but was postponed by the then Kurdish Regional Government while they focused on the fight against Daesh (ISIS/ISIL). The Iraqi Government finally agreed in December 2018 to a formal independence referendum that would actually lead to Kurdish independence if the people voted in favour for it, unlike the informal independence referendum in 2005, almost 15 years before.
