Ainulindalë (Quenya; IPA: [aɪnuˈlindale]; Music of the Ainur, also known as The Great Music, and The Great Song) is the initial chapter of The Silmarillion, edited and published by Christopher Tolkien after his father's death. As part of the Tolkien Middle-earth cycle, Ainulindalë plays the role of its cosmogony, or creation story. Many of the themes and storylines revealed in the later histories (in The Lord of the Rings, for example) find their first expression in Ainulindalë.

  • Ainulindalë (Quenya for Music of the Ainur) is the fifth album from Swedish doom metal band Yggdrasill Burning, released on July 25, 1997. Its title and themes are based off the Tolkien's mythology, and the Middle-earth cycle, Ainulindalë plays the role of its Cosmogony, or 'creation story'. It is the first album with the songs titled in English. The album was also re-issued in 2007 to commemorate its 10th anniversary. It is preceded by 1996's Vanir and followed by 1998's Ilúvatar.
  • The Ainulindalë (Q.: "Ainu-song–"), also called the Music of the Ainur, the Great Music, the Music, and the Song, were the divine chords sung by the Ainur. It was the development of the three themes of Ilúvatar and thus an expression of the divine order. The first theme, created by Ilúvatar but developed by the Ainur, presented the form of Ea. This theme was marred by the discord of Melkor. The second theme, probably indicating the shaping of Arda, defeated Melkor's discord and incorporated it into itself.

The third theme, in which the Ainur did not participate, dealt with the creation of the Children of Ilúvatar and their history up to the Dominion of Men.
