In 1236, the Abdalwadid kingdom of Tlemcen was established in West Algeria. Soon after, in 1268, their competitors, the Marinids, came to power in NW Africa. During 1331-51, Abu al-Hasan 'Ali reigned in Morocco. He conquered Tlemcen in 1337 and even managed to extend Morocco's rule to Tunisia in 1347-57. Later, his empire would fall apart again, though.
