Created 1900 by the London Government Act 1899, from the civil parishes of Clapham, Putney, Streatham, Tooting Graveney and Wandsworth (which, with Battersea, had been been administered by the Wandsworth District Board of Works). It was abolished in 1965, being divided up between the London Borough of Wandsworth (with the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea and the London Borough of Lambeth.
