Synopsis
  • Six months ago, an old prospector named Caleb Gurk was travelling the western desert when suddenly, a massive mansion materialized before his eyes. Gurk knew even then that fortune was waiting for him for his discovery. Sure enough, there would be riches to be found in the old mansion and Mr. Gurk would move in. Six months later he invited the wealthy, as well as the press and government officials to come see his home. Among them were Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent and United States Congresswoman Barbara Gordon. As they are being invited in, a helicopter carrying some more party goers suddenly stalls in mid-air, prompting Clark Kent to slip away and stop it from crashing as Superman. After learning that the helicopter's electronics failed for some mysterious reason, Superman slips away to change back into Clark Kent. Inside the mansion, they find a strange object in the living room that Clark's x-ray vision cannot penetrate. Both Clark and Barbara become suspicious about the strange happenings in the house. Suddenly two of the party guests come to blows, one of them clubbing the other with a candle stick, prompting Clark to once more quickly change into Superman and take the injured man off to the hospital. As the other party goers sit down to dinner, they are horrified to find that their wine glasses have been filled with blood. Finding the continued strange goings on suspicious, Barbara slips away to change into Batgirl so that she can investigate further. She is drawn back to the dining room when she finds that all the people in the house except Mr. Gurk have suddenly gone mad and begun fighting each other. Coming to the elderly man's rescue they seek refuge from the mob by locking themselves in an upstairs bedroom, however they follow after them and begin to pound on the door. Meanwhile, Superman returns to the location of the strange house and finds the house missing. Using his x-ray vision he finds it in a different vibrational frequency and matches it. In this strange dimension he is confronted by a bird faced man calling himself Dr. Horus. Horus explains that a great mind who, centuries ago, spent his time consumed in his research. His neighbors feared him due to his deformity and attempted to seal him in his house. He attempted to put himself into suspended animation however succeeded in something far greater: pulling his physical body and house into his mind. Superman deduces that Horus made the house appear so that he could observe the state of the world. Horus agrees to that, and tells the Man of Steel that he didn't like what he saw and withdrew, and that his effect on the people in his home, and his pulling them into his mind was an accident as he does not know the full extent of his powers. Superman then flies toward the house and smashed into the room where Batgirl and Caleb Gurk have been hiding in just as the mindless party goers break through. Carrying them safely to the living room, Superman realizes the strange object there was made out lead and in ripping it open reveals Dr. Horus inside. He asks Horus to concentrate his powers in sending them back to Earth. Horus succeeds and Batgirl, Gurk, the party goers and the house are all return to Earth. With the people returning to normal, Superman abruptly departs to change back into his Clark Kent guise. He rejoins the party, telling them that he spent the evening exploring the cellars under the mansion.
