Snidely Whiplash is the main antagonist of the Jay Ward cartoon, Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties. He is a stereotypical villain with a tall black top hat and cape and a long nose and a mustache. He tries everything he can to get rid of Dudley Do-Right, the man who can do no wrong, and foil the Mounties, usually smuggling things across the border, kidnapping Nel Fenwick, or trying to take over the Mountie's post. However, on one occasion, Snidely expressed open disgust at his wickedness, to the point of saying that he "hates himself" for his habit of tying innocent women to railroad tracks, and was actually glad when Dudley arrested him, though Nell got him acquitted in an initially rigged trial (Dudley played the judge) by claiming that Snidely was an orphan who developed a habit of tying women to railroad tracks because no one was there to teach him any better.
