He played junior hockey for the Regina Maple Leafs and then senior hockey for the Regina Victorias in 1933-34. From 1934 to 1936 he played in local Toronto amateur hockey. Church played for the Syracuse Stars from 1936 to 1939 and was called up to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a regular for the Leafs until mid-season 1941-42 when he was traded to the Brooklyn Americans. He finally joined the Bruins in 1945-46 but only scored eight points in 43 games. He then played for two years in the American Hockey League and retired in 1948. In the NHL Church scored 4 goals and 19 assists in 130 games.
