William Josiah Irons (12 September 1812 -18 June 1883) was a Church of England clergyman and theological writer. The son of the Reverend Joseph Irons, he was born in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. He entered Queen's College, Cambridge in 1829 and graduated with a BA in 1833, an MA in 1835 a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1842 and a Doctor in Divinity in 1854. Prebendary of St. Paul's Cathedral in 1860. Member of the London School Board, representing Marylebone 1873-76. Wikipedia page [1] and Hymnary page [2] refer.
