To check the code(s), pop the hood and start the engine. Open the small plastic enclosure on the drivers side of the engine labeled 'Diagnostic.' Get a short piece of wire and jump the GND and TEN connections, and then go to the instrument cluster and count the times the CEL light flashes. That will give you the code(s). Then you'll have to interpret the codes. Hope that helps a bit.
