Gernika was the first Atlantean settlement founded by Basques. Gernika was established in far south of the continent, and named after a place in the Basque homeland. The soil was particularly rich, but the climate was almost unbearably humid. With the unification of Spain, Gernika became a Spanish possession. When the United States of Atlantis acquired what had been Spanish Atlantis, it became the State of Gernika, with the city as its capital.
