| - The land route of the Highway is 45km long, but ferry travel adds 44km to that distance. The Vancouver Island section is 31km, whereas the Lower Mainland section is 14km. Highway 17 starts in Victoria, on the intersection of Douglas and Superior Streets. It goes north on Blanshard for about 3km, then proceeds as Patricia Bay Highway. It goes north out of the Victoria Metropolis area, and continues north through Cordova Bay, Saanichton, North Saanich, and Sidney before boarding a ferry in Swartz Bay.

Highway 17 then takes a 44km ferry route through the Strait of Georgia to the Lower Mainland. While on the way there, the ferry goes through American Waters for just about 9km before docking back in Canada. After docking in Tsawwassen, Highway 17 continues on its 14km Lower Mainland section. It heads northeast out of the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal into the town of Tsawwassen. After crossing over 52nd Street and 56th Street out of Tsawwassen, and then going north, the highway reaches Ladner. While exiting out of Ladner, Highway 17 ends at the intersection with Highway 99.
