The Sacramento State Hornets (also CSUS, CSU Sacramento, and Cal State Sacramento) represent California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California in intercollegiate athletics. They field nineteen teams including men and women's basketball, cross country, golf, rowing, soccer, tennis, and track and field; women's-only gymnastics, soccer, and volleyball; and men's-only baseball and football. The Hornets compete in NCAA Division I, and are members of the Big Sky Conference. The baseball team plays as an affiliate member in the Western Athletic Conference, and the women's rowing team will join Conference USA for the 2013–14 school year.

| - The Sacramento State Hornets Basketball team is the basketball team that represent California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California. The school's team currently competes in the Big Sky Conference. The team has never played in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. The Hornets are currently coached by Brian Katz. The 2007 US News and World Report collegiate rankings ranked Sacramento State as the 57th-best Masters-level university in the West. Sacramento State's colors are green and gold and its mascot is the Hornet. Sacramento State sports teams participate in NCAA Division I in the Big Sky Conference. In all sports, the university has a rivalry with the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). The football game is called the Causeway Classic and is played for the Causeway Carriage, referring to the fact that the schools are connected by the long Yolo Causeway bridge over Yolo Bypass floodway. More recently, the rivalry was officially expanded to include the Causeway Cup, which includes all sports the teams play in. The men's and women's basketball and the gymnastics teams call the Hornets Nest home and their mascot is Herky the Hornet.
