  • "When the Saints Go Marching In", often referred to as "The Saints", began as an American spiritual, has been played in musical forms from gospel to folk to jazz.
  • When the Saints Go Marching In is a song by Homer in One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish. It is a version of the gospel hymn of the same name.
  • Thought to be derived from the 1896 hymn "When the Saints Are Marching In" by Katherine Purvis and James Black, "When the Saints Go Marching In" was first published in a 1927 hymnal by Edward Boatner called "Spirituals Triumphant - Old and New". Due to the simple repetitive nature of the song there is no official or standard set of lyrics, with each performer adding and modifying verses as desired. Marvin Suggs plays the song on The Muppaphone in The Muppets episode, "Because... Love."

It was performed by Hal Linden and the Electric Mayhem on episode 517 of The Muppet Show. Unfortunately, Beauregard chooses that time to test the onstage trap-door releases, causing Hal and the other performers to keep falling through the stage floor. It was also used in the Sesame Street Live show, 1-2-3 Imagine!. Marvin Suggs plays the song on The Muppaphone in The Muppets episode, "Because... Love."
