  • Is’taria was a Mid-Rim world that was home to a mining colony. It was settled thirty years before the fall of the Republic and provided both the Republic and Empire with valuable materials. It began with a single mine on the main continent, but with the funding from the Empire, the colonists were able to build nine more such facilities. A garrison was stationed there for peace-keeping purposes, but the colony was run by a local council. It gained notoriety at the height of the Galactic Civil War when the entire colony was penalized for the actions of a single village which harbored three Rebel fugitives—Commander Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa and Captain Han Solo. When Darth Vader discovered this, he dispatched units of the 3rd Infantry to the world to capture the rebels. They were allowed to escape and the colony was destroyed as a result. Among the victims were many of Lord Vader’s own men because they had refused to kill civilians. During Vader’s war crimes trial, Colonel Batial of the 3rd Infantry testified against him because of the events that took place on Is’taria. It had never been recolonized and the survivors were relocated to penal colonies elsewhere in the Empire.
