Returning to Canada in the late seventies, Bloomfield likewise returned to television, directing episodes of SCTV, Friday the 13th: The Series, Road to Avonlea, and serving as head director and creative producer on the comedy-drama Due South. He later directed multiple episodes of the Billy Ray Cyrus series Doc. Bloomfield occasionally acted, including playing a reverend in the 1983 horror movie Spasms (with Gerard Parkes). His nephew was actor Maury Chaykin, whom he directed in episodes of A&E's Nero Wolfe.
