The Vaniveran throne is a hereditary position, passed among the members of the House of Oléron-Vendôme. The ruling family of Vanivere is of this ancient Celaeni royal house. If the imperial line dies out, the Imperial House of Vanivere will be replaced by the closest relatives of the Oléron-Vendôme family. The main role of the Emperor of Vanivere is ceremonial in practice, but the Emperor may veto laws passed by Parliament. Any law passed by Parliament must be approved by the Emperor and the Chancellor, though if in the case the Emperor and Chancellor disagree, the Emperor's decision will go into effect. The Emperor may also appoint officials within the Council of State and may name the Second Consul if he so wishes.
