About: Hyperspace disturbance beyond the edge of the galaxy   Sponge Permalink

An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

It was originally thought that hyperspace travel outside the galaxy was impossible because of a hyperspace disturbance at the edge of the galaxy. The goal of the Outbound Flight Project was to use the combined abilities of six Jedi Masters and twelve Jedi Knights to penetrate the disturbance using the Force. The Yuuzhan Vong found that they were able to bypass it at an area they called Vector Prime. The Yuuzhan Vong also possibly entered the Crispin system, which was at the very edge of the galaxy at the outer border of Wild Space.

  • It was originally thought that hyperspace travel outside the galaxy was impossible because of a hyperspace disturbance at the edge of the galaxy. The midline of this field that surrounded the galaxy almost exactly corresponded to the portion of the Unknown Regions that bordered the "western" quarter of the galactic disc. This segment of the Unknown Regions was historically impenetrable to conventional hyperspace mapping attempts by the Old Republic. Dr. Insmot Bowen of the Obroan Institute speculated in 1 BBY that the Celestials were responsible for the disturbance, possibly to contain their enemies due to a war occurring at the time.
