The conflict began in the year 3,941 BrS, when the Mandalorians started conquering planets in the Outer Rim, the first being Dalos IV. Some claim the first clashes between the Mandalorian and Republic fleets taking place as early as 3,930 BrS, but the main part of the combat commenced after the Mandalorians invaded the Galactic Republic itself, circa 3,928 BrS.

After the infraction into Republic space, the Republic Military, along with a renegade faction of the Jedi Order, launched a successful counter-attack against the invaders, driving them back in the process. The war concluded in 3,925 BrS with the Republic's triumph over the Mandalorians at Malachor V.
