Sindh State in India is known as a major center of one of the most ancient civilizations in the world, namely the Indus Valley Civilization. An amazing archaeological find has been "Mohenjo Daro", which exhibits civilizational complexity nearly unprecedented for its time, including some of the first ever sewage systems. The name "Sindh" comes from "Indus" river (called the "Sindh" in the local language), and the religion called "Hinduism" in English derives its name from the area as well. The majority of people in Sindh are Hindus, with relatively visible Buddhist and Jain minorities.

  • Sindh State in India is known as a major center of one of the most ancient civilizations in the world, namely the Indus Valley Civilization. Now, Sindh is the home of the Sindhis, and Indo-Aryan-language-speaking ethnic group. Because of the mighty Indus river, the region has been a major agricultural area for millennia. Over the past few decades, there has been increasing urbanization, however. The majority of people in Sindh are Hindus, with relatively visible Buddhist and Jain minorities.
