  • Metal crate is an item used in the quest Do No Evil. It is obtained from Ali Morrisane, and should be taken to Ava in order for her to make Ava's alerter. Ava will then hide the crate in the grounds of Draynor Manor, and the player must use Ava's alerter to find the crate in order to test it. Once found, it should be taken back to Ava, who will take it from you, allowing you to use the alerter in the desert. If you try to open the crate that Ali gives you, it says, "The crate is empty. • Metal crates appear in Metroid Prime. They cannot be scanned, but most types can be destroyed, and yield Energy Capsules or Missile/Power Bomb Ammo. Some are explosive and feature Cipher symbols with red centers. Some larger types cannot be destroyed, most notably in the Control Tower. Attacks from Flying Pirates are able to destroy the larger types, however. They are named in concept art of the game. They are found in all regions of Tallon IV, sans the Artifact Temple and Impact Crater.

Though it seems likely they belong to the Space Pirates, the crates feature small Artifact symbols, linking them to the Chozo.
