  • Bride of Chucky is a 1998 American comedy horror film directed by Chinese director Ronny Yu. It is the fourth entry in the "Child's Play" series. In the first installment in the series, Child's Play (1988), a serial killer (Brad Dourif) is shot and mortally wounded while on the run from police. Before dying, Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray ("The Lakeshore Strangler") takes cover inside a toy store, where he finds boxes of a fictional brand of "Good Guy" dolls. He uses a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into one of them. Six months after the events of Child's Play 3, Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), a former lover and accomplice of "Chucky" Ray, acquires the doll's remains after bribing and later murdering a police officer who had removed its dismembered parts from an evidence locker. Believing Ray's soul to be inhabiting the doll, Tiffany crudely stitches it back together and reenacts the voodoo ritual which had instilled Ray inside the doll. After reviving Chucky, however, she is murdered by him; and her soul is transferred into a female doll's body. Chucky and Tiffany then fooling two teenagers (Nick Stabile and Katherine Heigl) into taking them to New Jersey so that they can recover the heart of Dambala from "Chucky" Lee's grave in order to transfer their souls into the teenagers' bodies. Bride of Chucky marks the point where the Child's Play series takes a more humorous turn, often into self-referential parody. Contrary to the previous three films, the violence in Bride of Chucky is punctuated by humour to deflate the macabre visuals. The film marks Chucky's new permanent look, a more frightening appearance in which he is covered in scars following his fate in Child's Play 3.
