- Imperial Customs is the agency of the Galactic Empire responsible for ensuring imports and exports that travel through Imperial Space are legal and comply with Imperial laws and regulations. In that capacity, Imperial Customs engages smugglers, arms runners, spice traders, and other criminals involved in the movement and sale of illegal substances, as well as legitimate independent spacers and large-scale freight haulers. Furthermore, Customs also helps deter pirates and participates in search-and-rescue missions. Imperial Customs has a significant number of space stations - such as Golan III defensive platforms - under their control. These platforms are located on common hyperspace corridors and serviced and protected by the Imperial Navy. The most recognizable symbol of Imperial Customs is the Rendili StarDrive Light Corvette, more commonly known as the "Imperial Customs Corvette" because the ship was produced exclusively for the Customs office. Customs tries to keep at least one of these vessels on patrol in every system; backwater systems can expect a visit at least every three to four weeks. Despite its close association with the Imperial Navy, Customs is actually a separate organization entire removed from the navy and has its own organizational structure. In spite of this separation, cross-promotion is common, meaning that customs agents who distinguish themselves can be promoted into the navy.
