I was thinking, Wikipedia uses a star as indication of articles being, or have been, featured articles. How about doing the same, so other people can see if the article they are reading has been good enough to be featured? The symbol doesn't necessarily have to be a star, but more like an artistic "FF" or something that symbolizes Final Fantasy. I have a pretty good idea of the code for the template, I just need to know if it's a good idea, and if yes, what picture to use. --Hecko X 23:41, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

  • You are wrong on two counts. One, Vana'diel was chose because of the transition period rule, which has been up for half a year. So that's certainly not Diablo's fault. Secondly, Diablo did mention he was going to change the rules for this month, in the last FA nominations. That was a month ago, and there was time for comments there . Since when has Diablo not followed the rules for this? He's an excellent admin, and I have never seen him abuse his power. In fact, he would have left Gunblade as FA, even though he wanted a "spooky" article, until I mentioned the transition rule.
  • There was no way that the voters could have possibly known that their chose was no eligable. They could have, you know, read the rules. No one did though, and no one brought it up, so they wasted their votes.
  • That rule has been up there since I've joined. It's at the top of the page .
  • Here's a little something. It's how many articles have been featured for all games over the past 2-3 years: *FF: 0 *FFII: 0 *FFIII: 0 *FFIV: 5 *FFV: 0 *FFVI: 4 *FFVII: 5 *FFVIII: 2 *FFIX: 2 *FFX: 1 *FFXI: 1 *FFXII: 1 *FFX-2: 1 *FFXIIRW: 1 *FFT: 1 *Chocobo Series: 1 *General: 8 Yes, that's right, no article from I, II, III or V has ever been featured. I'm not annoyed that General has 8, since that includes things like Gilgamesh, Belias and Moogles . Meanwhile IV and VII put everyone else to shame, with VI trailing behind. Our FAs are supposed to feature our best articles yes, but they should also show the variety of FF. I'm putting this here mainly to show off why I think a "One game a year" rule is important.
  • I know the "wait a month rule", so why did Diablo wait all September to enforce it? 15 votes wasted because Diablo never enforced that rule. If he doesn't like that people don't pay attention to the rules, maybe its because he didn't enforce them. As for new rules, find, enforce new rules for this month, not last month when no one knew the new rules and thus couldn't follow them. I moderate a StarCraft chatboard. If I suddenly say "next month I'm going to make new rules, but you can't know them until then", people will be fine. Then if, a month later, I say "No more threads about Terrans!", and delete the some half-dozen Terran threads currently open, people would be angry. "Well you can tell me what you think of this rule if you like, but in the end I'm going to do as I please regardless". Do you see the problem with doing that?
  • Edit Conflict: Diablo forgot about that rule, so that's your first question answered. As for not telling what the rules are: "Alright, next month I introduce a new rule. Voting can onyl start when there are 5 nominations.". He also suggested the slate be cleaned, but other people said no. As for the "one FA from FF#" rule, it's pretty much standard to have a lot of different FFs represented. He's just enforcing it, so the situation is completely different.
  • Wow, this really does put it into perspective...hm.
  • That doesn't do anything. September is one month later than August. That's simple, dude. No, he nominated it for the September FA. According to this rule, he couldn't nominate it for the October FA, he'd have to wait a month. I need a stiff drink and to restructure these rules already.
  • I like being able to vote, when votes are being acknowledged. Gunblade won either way, so if it is not eligible on the grounds of being nominated twice in a row, then we should push it back to the next month, which would be November. It just seems to me that it won, then was ignored, which is not right. I'm not going to feel comfortable voting if in the end whatever article the admin likes is going to win.
  • I am only going to say this once: THE FA CHANGE FROM GUNBLADE TO VANA'DIEL HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NEW RULES! Anyway, I don't see why the hell you're complaining about the new rules Drake. The 5 nomination rules serves to actually make the voting fair, a rule that was badly needed since the first nominee always won in a landslide, and if not, it would be the second nominee. The second rule enforces viarety and fun. I hated seeing this: Midgar -> Golbez -> Tifa That drove me insane. Games like III and V never get featured because everyone wants a IV, VII or VIII article. Trying to give other games time in the sun is not a bad thing. If more people bitch, I will remove the voting system, since I was rather happy choosing fun articles to be featured, rather than having to feature three character articles in a row. Not even fun obscure characters, I mean main characters. >:
  • FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WE AREN'T TALKING ABOUT THAT RULE, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THIS RULE: You can nominate the same article again one month later. We call it a transition period. THE RULE YOU'RE THINKING OF HAS JUST BEEN INTRODUCED, LIKE I SAID IN MY NEW POST. READ YOU MORON!!!
  • Definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY. We haven't actually voted as a wiki on this stuff in a while , so it would be nice to go back to some kind of organization. I like it, Blue! ^_^
  • I find your lack of ability to read my giant block of text about new rules that everyone should read disturbing.
  • *Facepalm* Keep reading!!! To the fucking Q&A about this matter!!! Since when did we have a rule saying that two articles from the same game cannot be featured in the same years? I SAID IN THE POST THESE ARE NEW RULES!!! THEY ARE BEING APPLIED FROM THIS MONTH ONWORDS!!! JESUS CHRIST!!!
  • Edit conflict:@Blue: I was talking about the nominee for each month rule. The other rules are new. @Bluer: Ah, that would explain it. I joined in March.
  • ...are you guys all 13-year-old children or what? Why the hell are you making such a stupid fuss about the FA? So whatever article you nominated didn't get to be on the Main Page. LIVE ON. Seriously, this argument is easily the lamest topic in discussion since the idiocy of the talk template image. And you up there, if you think the featuring, or lack thereof, of an article warrants the insult, then you should really go back to being quiet. Motherfucker. What the hell.

I was thinking maybe we could have a montage of some important Final Fantasy items there, such as a Magicite shard, a Materia shard, a Pyrefly, a Crystal from FFIV, et cetera with the word "featured" in the middle. Crazyswordsman 00:08, 3 September 2006 (UTC) I think a montage is a little over the top, taking the size into account. I mean, the "wikipedia-star" is on this big () because it's placed where it is (check the top-right corner[1]). But I must agree, I think having the word "Featured" with pireflies spiraling around it, leaving traces, could be awesome. --Hecko X 00:26, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
