Before she became a successful author, she was a child and forensic psychiatrist and a major in the US Air Force. At the same time, she pursued a Masters' degree in film and literature at Wesleyan University. Bick's Star Trek writing career began with winning the Grand Prize in the second Strange New Worlds short story competition. Her first (and, to date, only) full-length novel, Well of Souls, became a 2003 Barnes & Noble bestseller.
