Télex was a Belgian band formed in 1978 with the goal of "making something really European" different from any other genre, which was electronic music. They released their first album in 1979. The group represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 in The Hague with a song coincidentally called Eurovision, which became the only song in the event's history to directly reference the contest itself. It finished in 17th place, but became the group's best-known song both in Belgium and abroad.
