  • Barth Trenchers G.B. was founded in the early 1960's & operated from Mablethorpe on the Lincolnshire coast until the swaging Government cuts to the agricultural grant schemes which funded a lot of the work undertaken by the land drainage industry in the UK, bankrupted the firm in August 1984. In the main County/Ford skid units both 4 & 6 cylinder were used as donor units, there were however, in the final years prior to Barths' demise in 1984 a few larger Barth K141/K151/K181/K200 units were built using all proprietary components & a unique twin duplex chain drive system of digging chain drive that ran up both sides of the digging boom. Two of my old M.T. Agricultural Engineering compatriots, Steve Maplethorpe & Kieth Sharp (now both retired), worked for the firm in the late 1970's & early 1980's. M.T. Agricultural Engineering were a main Barth parts distributor in the U.K. during this period. Contributor: Paul Beal
