  • The Bijani National Council formation of 1949 refers to the process by which the members of the National Council, the upper chamber of the bicameral National Assembly of Bijan, were selected. Unlike its counterpart, the Chamber of Deputies, which is directly elected, the National Council's membership is chosen through a variety of methods. Technically, the six ex officio members of the National Council took office with the entry into force of the Constitution of Bijan on January 1, 1949. The twenty-four elected members were chosen between April 6, 1949, and April 23, 1949. With 30 of its 40 members, the National Council convened for its first session on Tuesday, April 26, 1949. The ten appointed members were announced by Presidet Veki Hajasi on June 14, 1949, and took their seats for the first time on June 15.
