The Dekkona used this device to invade Federation space and surreptitiously enter the Sol system undetected. From there, the Dekkona maneuvered adjacent to the primary command station of the Federation Starfleet's Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, extracting Trop Kazren of the Breen Intelligence Directorate from Utopia Planitia Control and ferrying him to Breen space. Trop Kazren had successfully stolen plans for the Federation's new quantum slipstream technology and had detonated explosive charges on Utopia Control, killing 31 Federates and injuring nearly one hundred in order to cover up his escape. The Breen Militia had hoped to adapt the drive to their starships, and the Dekkona had assisted in order to ensure the drive would be shared with the other Typhon Pact member states. (ST - Typhon Pact novels: Zero Sum Game, Plagues of Night) During the voyage, both Commander Marius and his second in command, Subcommander Orventa T'Jul, were strongly tempted to seize the stolen plans from Kazren and deliver them to Romulus rather than allow the Breen to proceed with development. (ST - Typhon Pact novels: Zero Sum Game, Plagues of Night) Four standard months later, the Dekkona attempted to lure the Federation starship USS Aventine from the Federation-Breen border by transmitting a false distress signal from the civilian freighter SS Tullahoma. The Aventine responded, reaching the region in the vicinity of the Black Cluster from where the signal had originated. The Dekkona and her sister ships, the IRW Terrinex and IRW Kytonis, decloaked, surrounding the Aventine. Commander Marius delivered an ultimatum to Federation Starfleet Captain Ezri Dax demanding that she surrender the Aventine or be destroyed. Captain Dax immediately turned the tables, signaling a Klingon Defense Force escort fleet consisting of three Qang-class heavy cruisers and two Negh'Var-class battleships to decloak, surrounded the Romulan attack fleet. The Aventine departed for the Breen border, leaving the Dekkona under Klingon watch. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Zero Sum Game)
