Herbert James Lowton Lygoe (1895-1968) was a Labour Party politician active in the Islington area. Lygoe was employed by the General Post Office, appointed as a temporary postman in November 1911 and becoming a paper keeper in April 1913. He was subsequently described as a "civil servant" and by 1932 he was resident in Upper Holloway and was a trustee of the North Islington Divisional Labour Party. A long-term alderman on Islington Borough Council from the 1930s, he served as Mayor of Islington for 1940-41. He was awarded the MBE in 1955 and the OBE in 1963.
