- Tootsie is a 1982 film starring Dustin Hoffman. The Tanners watch the movie on HBO using a free trial, which the cable provider forgot to disconnect. ALF retorts that his attempt to unscramble the signal to contact Air Force One was analagous to the Tanners watching Tootsie without paying for HBO.

He takes the job as a way to raise $8,000 to produce a play, written by his roommate Jeff Slater (Bill Murray) and to star Sandy, titled Return to Love Canal.
