  • CoServ Electric is a not-for-profit rural electric utility cooperative headquartered in Corinth, Texas. CoServ was organized in 1937 as the Denton County Electric Cooperative, and took its current DBA name (a shortened version of "cooperative services") in 1998. Currently, CoServ Electric is the second largest cooperative in the state of Texas, serves more than 140,000 meters across six counties, including Denton, Collin, Tarrant, Wise, Cooke and Grayson. CoServ also provides natural gas service to more than 62,000 meters in the same general service areas. During the late 1990s, CoServ also provided home security services and engaged in other businesses, but after a reorganization of assets in 2002, the company returned to its roots of providing electric and gas services only. The CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) was established in November 2004 to help CoServ raise community awareness and to enhance existing activities that support the Cooperative Principle – “Concern for the Community.” Since its inception, the CCF has awarded more than $1.6 million in grants to 90 organizations in 32 communities. The significant infusion of charitable community support has provided health care services to more than 6,000 uninsured children, provided therapy to autistic and muscular challenged youths, built homes or provided shelter for the homeless, provided meals to the elderly, purchased state-of-the-art communications and fire/rescue equipment for fire departments and police departments and supported numerous projects that have enhanced client empowerment, reduced hardships or helped overcome barriers that denied clients access to needed services.
