When Vera and Shubie grow apart, Shubie reaches her wits end. After Tom criticizes her parenting skills, Shubie lets him deal with Vera himself and takes off for a weekend at a spa what Tom won with Abagail. Tom tries to get on Vera's good side by letting her spend time with Medley only to find out she broke up and is dating an older boy, Wilmer. When Tom forbids her from going out with Wilmer, he tries to make up for it by hosting a party at their house instead. When Tom's party is a bust, he heads off to bed leaving Vera to invite a house full of rowdy parties while she uses the cover to sneak off with Wilmer. Finding Medley crying in the bushes from their breakup, they find the only car they can use to pursue is Scooter's old driver's education car which has a sleeping Scooter in the backseat. Meanwhile, Wilmer's driving scares Vera who wants out but Wilmer refuses until after the race which Vera finds herself in. Directed by Scooter, Tom manages to intercept Wilmer and ejects Scooter who wrecks Wilmer's car. Recovering Vera from the wreck, Tom gives credit for driving to Medley letting Vera make up with him. Rushing home, they clean up the mess from the party before Shubie comes home. When Vera shows a changed attitude towards Shubie, Shubie becomes depressed until Tom tells her of the events of the weekend. Tom suggests that Vera is a lost cause and they should concentrate on Tyler who chooses that moment to walk past naked believing himself to be invisible thanks to Taylor.
