| - In Golden Sun when the Heavy Armlet is first buyable in Kalay, it is a solid upgrade to any Armlets that Ivan and Mia might be wearing, but it would not be worth the money to replace a Gauntlet because it would only increase Defense by a couple points. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Heavy Armlets can first be bought in Yallam, meaning they are available to buy as soon as you get the Lemurian Ship to sail the Great Eastern Sea with. While it wouldn't replace the superior Bone Armlet one of your Adepts might be wearing, it would technically be an okay replacement for an Armlet the other Adept might be wearing and be all the better as a buy if they are wearing anything below that. But in Champa which is also accessible as soon as the Great Eastern Sea can be explored, a stronger and twice as expensive Silver Armlet can be bought in its place, and it has exactly as much defense as the Bone Armlet. So, if you want to puchase an armwear upgrade for whichever mage-style Adept is not equipped with the Bone Armlet without relying on forging materials at the blacksmith in Yallam, you would most likely want to buy a Silver Armlet instead of a Heavy Armlet. Keep in mind that with all the Tear Stones you can collect during this portion of the game, it should be pretty easy to get your hands on a Clear Bracelet, which is in fact even better than a Silver Armlet and cheaper as well.
