The Freiheit-class is an escort carrier model based off of the hull of the Sacheen-class Light Escort Mark II. The two share many parts to further simply logistics, and externally appear to be almost identical, save for the lack of weaponry on the Freiheit. The two share many parts to further simply logistics, and externally appear to be almost identical, save for the lack of weaponry on the Freiheit. Instead, the Freiheit has relatively vast hangars capable of not only comfortably holding the heaviest starfighters of the Republic, but also come complete with extensive repair and servicing abilities. This includes a machine shop with a molecular furnace capable of making parts, and given enough time, whole starfighters. Like the Sacheen Mark II, the Freiheit has many launch tubes capable of magnetically accelerating starfighters into space. Unlike its sister ship, it also sports a large conventional that occupies its middle deck and opens out to the front. This bay carries half of the ship's starship complement. Large, reinforced blastdoors seal this hangar when not in use. Yet the Freiheit does not only serve merely as a collection of mobile hangars, but also as a combat support vessel for its fighter wing. Unlike most carriers, the Freiheit makes use of an extensive ECM suite, with its tactical sensor jammers capable of blocking out light capital ship and starfighter communications, sensors, and targeting computers. A magnetoran sweep serves to further disrupt the sensors of those ships whose sensors are powerful enough to cut through the jamming. Lastly, the Freiheit employs copies of Jan Dodonna's Battle Analysis Computers, as used by the late escort carrier Flurry, to better coordinate its fighters' actions. The Freiheit is usually deployed as an escort vessel for convoys to provide fighter coverage to convoys or to enhance the fighter capacity of existing fleets. Occasionally, the Freiheit is also used to simply transfer fighter squadrons between different units. Because of its relatively weak armament, the Freiheit rarely engages other capital ships, but its heavy turbolasers and extensive shields means that it is often capable of taking on a corvette or two by itself, but it is unlikely to be able to combat anything larger by itself, and must rely on other warships or its fighter complement to defend itself.
