abstract
| - The United States of Britain Presidential Election, 1984 was held on November 6th, 1984 to elect the next President of the USB. The contest was between incumbent Republican President Margaret Thatcher, and Democratic challenger, former Vice-President Michael Foot. Thatcher's first four years as President had not been an easy time. Unemployment increased during the first three years of her term and the economy went through a recession. However, the British victory in the Falklands War led to a recovery of her popularity; the economy had also returned to growth. By the time the election was near, she was most people's firm favourites to win. Meanwhile Michael Foot's campaign was seen as more left-wing than usual Democratic campaigns.
