Cuando Kalimán y sus amigos pierden el sentido mientras cruzan un entorno lleno de peligrosas flores narcotizantes, los mandriles se hacen con ellos y los llevan ante su jefeleft|350pxright|270px. Kul se comporta como lo hace siempre y se dispone a matar a sus prisioneros, pero cuando Kalimán recupera el conocimiento reta al mandril a un duelo por sus vidas. Kul termina accediendo y siendo vencido por Kalimán, y mientras el resto de los mandriles lo miran estupefactos, Kalimán libera a sus amigos y corre hacia la selva. Cuando la manada de mandriles intenta perseguirlos, Kalimán la hipnotiza temporalmente, pero por ser tantos el grado de hipnosis es leve y las bestias terminan por recuperarse demasiado pronto. Kalimán y sus amigos terminan siendo arrinconados en un lugar abrupto, pero justo entonces Gurú, quien ha seguido a Kalimán a través de la selva, surge de la espesura y les indica a Kalimán y sus amigos una ruta de escape por el río. Mientras Kalimán se enfrenta a los mandriles a puñetazos, Gurú guía a Solín, Boni y Yadira a un bote que tiene en la orilla y escapa con ellos por el río. Poco después Kalimán salta desde un risco al río, y Kul y sus mandriles no tienen más remedio que mirar furiosos como los cinco humanos se escapan de sus garras.
