It was among the first models offered with this joint type which has since become the standard for Ibanez guitars. The 540SC is a near identical model which was sold in the US market. The 540SLTD is a related model with a double locking tremolo and sharktooth fretboard inlays. The 540S-CT5 was discontinued in 1990. It was replaced by the 540S-CT6 which is very similar but adds a coil-tap switch.
