| - The Doubs is a river in Jura, flowing in between France and Switzerland and searching its way through the parallel valleys. Sometimes directing to NO and then turning to SW, finally merging into Sâone (and giving the most water nevertheless losing its name. System: Rhône, Mediterranean. Sometimes directing to NO and then turning to SW, finally merging into Sâone (and giving the most water nevertheless losing its name. System: Rhône, Mediterranean. Le Doubs is the river of fog, of dark woods and melancholy. Near the border to France there is an ancient watermill, now a restaurant, where they give only trout. The source of Doubs is near Mouthe (behind the mountainchain after Vallorbe). First it flows north-east, more or less along the French-Swiss border (forming the border for approx. 40 km). Near Montbéliard it turns south-west, until it flows after about 430 km into the river Saône in Verdun-sur-le-Doubs, approx. 20 km north-east of Chalon-sur-Saône. It touches Pontarlier, St.Ursanne, comes very near to Montbéliard (Mömpelgard), Besançon, Dôle. I like the Doubs and its shadows….
