Sie verstecken sich in dem geschmolzenen Gestein, um ihre Beute dann aus dem Hinterhalt mit Feuerbällen zu beschießen. Äußerlich erinnern sie an Seepferdchen, vom Gameplay her erinnern sie an Yurarin Boo und Dragonzamasu aus Super Mario Land. Eine grüne Unterart lebt in Crateria. Außerdem gibt es sowohl in Norfair als auch in Cateria so genannte Alcoons, die ein paar Beine und Flügel oder Flossen besitzen. Despite the fact that they look like a seahorse, they live in molten-lava filled areas, where they rest inside of the lava, waiting for an opponent such as Samus Aran to appear. Their armor that covers their body is so powerful, probably thanks to the lava it lives in.
