He is of Creole heritage and can speak Creole, English, and Spanish. He bats and throws right-handed. Hansack was origninally signed as a minor league free agent by the Houston Astros on October 21, 1999. He stayed with the organization for five seasons, never reaching the majors, before being released on March 29, 2004. He spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as a lobster fisherman while playing professionally in Nicaragua. Hansack made his return to American professional baseball when he signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox on December 9, 2005. He spent the season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, where he helped them win the 2006 Eastern League Championship, and played well enough to earn a call-up when the rosters expanded to 40 players on September 1. He was named the Eastern League Championship MVP and the Portland Sea Dogs Pitcher of the Year. He made his major league debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on September 23, 2006, allowing 3 runs over 5.1 innings, and getting the loss. His next start was on the final game of the season, against the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox had already been eliminated from playoff contention, and the game was all but meaningless. Hansack pitched a rain-shortened, five-inning no-hitter, striking out 15 and allowing only one base-runner, Fernando Tatis, who was promptly erased on a double play. Because of a 1991 rule change, which states that a pitcher must throw a full nine innings to get credit for a no-hitter, Hansack did not receive credit. He did, however, get credit for a complete game shutout. Hansack played well in 2007 Spring Training, putting up a 2.08 ERA, but did not make the club out of Spring Training and was optioned to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox. He was called up on May 3, 2007, replacing the injured Mike Timlin. He was sent back down on May 11, when the Red Sox recalled Javier Lopez. He returned to the Red Sox on May 18, when Josh Beckett was placed on the 15-Day DL. Hansack began the 2008 season with Pawtucket. Image:Baseball Template.png This article is a stub.
