Referee: Send out your Pokemon! Tyler: Venusaur. I know who I’m going with! Referee: Begin! Jon: Tyler made a good matchup choice. Mary: True, but Luke wants to be the best Pokemon Trainer he can be. Ralph: This will be interesting! Luke: Tyler, can your Charizard Mega Evolve? Tyler: Yes. Can your Venusaur. Luke: Yeah. Want a Mega Battle to start off? Tyler: You bet! Jon: I’ve never seen Mega Charizard Y or Mega Venusaur before! Luke: So their first battle is going to be a Mega Evolution exchange. Mary: Tyler better be careful. Luke: So, you can attack first. Tyler: Flamethrower! Tyler: What?! Jon: What?!

Commentator: Whoa! Two Mega Pokemon. Mega Charizard’s ability Drought is bringing out the sunshine. How will this battle turn out? Luke: So, you can attack first. Tyler: Flamethrower! Tyler: What?! Jon: What?! Nate: Mega Venusaur has the ability Thick Fat. Michael: Thick Fat cuts fire type moves in half so less damage is took. Ralph: Even with Drought, that should have done more. Mary: That’s Luke for you. Luke: I see you’re stumped. Mega Venusaur, use Energy Ball! Luke: Yes! Zoey: What happened? Jon: Energy Ball’s additional effect. Mega Charizard’s special defence is lowered. Nate: So Energy Ball will cause more damage, even against a flying and fire type. Tyler: What? Oh well. Use Flamethrower! Luke: Energy Ball! Tyler: This isn’t working! Take to the air! Luke: I see what you trying to do, but it won’t work Tyler. Tyler: You can’t hit Mega Charizard while it’s in the air. Commentator: We’ve all seen Mega Venusaur’s speed of attacking, but how will Tyler deal with this? Luke: You can fly as high as you like, but it won’t work. Show them with your Energy Ball! Tyler: Dodge it. Jon: Again. Tyler: Argh. You okay Mega Charizard? Tyler: Then use Flare Blitz. Nate: Isn’t Venusaur going to dodge? Luke: Double Team! Commentator: No matter what Tyler does, Luke perfectly counters it. Tyler: Argh! Luke: You seem annoyed? Tyler: You perfectly counter my attacks. Luke: So, what are you going to do? Tyler: Slash! Luke: Sludge Bomb! Referee: Charizard is unable to battle. Tyler: You done well Charizard, thanks. Luke: Do you want me to revert Mega Venusaur back to normal? Tyler: No thanks. Luke: Do you mind me asking why? Tyler: I want to defeat a Mega Pokemon. Jon does it sometimes while we were travelling or came very close to winning. I want to give my Pokemon a shot. Go, Miltank! Luke: I see. Use Energy Ball! Luke: Sap Sipper. Commentator: Wow! Tyler sends out Miltank, making good use of Miltank’s Sap Sipper ability which has raised Miltank’s attack. Sap Sipper is Miltank’s Hidden Ability. Zoey: I didn’t know Tyler’s Miltank had Sap Sipper. Jon: Neither did I. Tyler must have known or done research on the ability Miltank can have. Luke: I see. Use Sludge Bomb! Tyler: Gyro Ball! Jon: Cool. Mary: Luke can’t do any damage to Miltank. Unless he uses Double Team then attacks. Luke: Double Team! Tyler: I see. Uses Iron Head on the floor! Tyler: Now Body Slam! Referee: Venusaur is unable to battle. Luke: Thanks Venusaur. Good work with Miltank I have to say. Tyler: Thanks. Luke: But my next Pokemon will be a perfect counter. Go Kingler! Mary: So his Krabby evolved. Zoey: Kingler looks well trained. Michael: I wonder what this strategy Luke has. Luke: Now, use Bubble Beam! Tyler: Gyro Ball! Luke: Now, Attract! Commentator: Oh no! Miltank has fallen to Kingler’s Attract, confirming Luke’s Kingler to be male. Tyler: Use Iron Head! Luke: Use Crabhammer! Referee: Miltank is unable to battle. Tyler: Thanks Miltank. Luke: I must congratulate Miltank for knocking out Mega Venusaur, but I have a way to defeat all your Pokemon! Jon: I have a feeling I know Luke’s strategy. Nate: What is it? Jon: I’ll tell you when he uses his third Pokemon. I need to see if my suspicions are correct. Tyler: So Kingler is male. So to stop Attract, I need to send in a male Pokemon. Go Gengar! Commentator: So Gengar is Tyler’s third Pokemon choice. Luke: I’m presuming Gengar is male, considering the time you took. Tyler: You’re not the only one with status moves, use Double Team! Mary: That won’t work. Luke: Bubble Beam, then Ice Beam! Tyler: Argh, Thunderbolt quick! Commentator: Gengar hits Kingler with a close range Thunderbolt, which must cause a lot of damage. Luke: Bubble Beam! Tyler: Dark Pulse! Tyler: Shadow Ball! Luke: Ice Beam! Luke: Now, Attract! Jon: What is Luke doing? He knows Gengar is a male! Luke: Now Crabhammer! Commentator: Luke uses Attract as a decoy for Crabhammer. What a great idea! Ralph: Luke has done well training his Pokemon. Mary: He would do. Luke: So what you going to do? Tyler: Argh. Gengar, use Double Team! Luke: Counter with Attract! Luke: Crabhammer! Tyler: Shadow Ball! Referee: Both Kingler and Gengar are unable to battle. Tyler: You done well Gengar. Luke: Great work Kingler. Now Eevee, shine! Tyler: Eevee is next then. Michael: An Eevee. Ralph: Why bring an Eevee to the Johto League? Jon: Not sure. Tyler: If you’re using a normal type, then I’ll use Hitmontop! Commentator: So the next fight is going to be Eevee against Hitmontop. Who will be victorious? Nate: Let’s see if your strategy idea you think Luke is using comes true. Luke: Shadow Ball! Tyler: Dodge, the Mach Punch! Luke: Protect! Jon: Thought so. Zoey: Thought what? Jon: Every Pokemon in Luke’s team has a status move, whether it be Double Team or Attract or Protect. Mary: You’re right. Ralph: You know Luke’s battle style? Mary: Yes. Tyler: So Eevee has Protect. Luke: You seem surprised. Dig, let’s go! Tyler: Bullet Punch the floor! Luke: What? Tyler: Now Close Combat! Referee: Eevee is unable to battle. Luke: You done all you could Eevee. Tyler: Good work Hitmontop. Luke: Now Ursaring, front and centre! Ralph: Has he given up? Jon: Luke always has a plan. He’s going to use his Status moves to his advantage. Tyler: Ursaring? Then use Rapid Spin! Luke: Swords Dance. Luke: Now, Brick Break! Luke: Hyper Beam! Referee: Hitmontop is unable to battle. Commentator: Even with a type disadvantage, Luke still beat Hitmontop. Jon: And he used Hyper Beam at the right time. Ralph: What do you mean? Nate: After using Hyper Beam, a Pokemon needs to recover. Jon: Using Hyper Beam to knock Hitmontop out, Ursaring will have recovered by the time Tyler sends in his next Pokemon. Mary: Who is that going to be? Jon: Jumpluff. Michael: Why not Feraligatr? Jon: Tyler always wants to keep Feraligatr as his last Pokemon. Luke: So who is next? Tyler: Jumpluff! Ralph: You were right. Jon: I’m just wondering if the training Jumpluff done was good enough at Elm’s lab. Luke: A Grass and Flying type now. Tyler: Even with Swords Dance, Ursaring can’t win. Luke: We’ll see, use Slash! Tyler: That’s fast! Luke: You seem very surprised Tyler. Tyler: Dazzling Gleam! Luke: Hyper Beam! Tyler: I can’t see a thing. Michael: Another good idea to let Ursaring recover. Tyler: Acrobatics! Luke: I wasn’t expecting that. Mary: Now Luke is getting a bit surprised. Nate: Luke has the advantage. Ralph: Of course he does, he still has two Pokemon who haven’t fought yet. Jon: He doesn’t mean that. Luke’s use of Status moves is rattling Tyler. Tyler has to resort in full out attack to defeat Luke, and Luke knows that. Luke: Swords Dance! Luke: Now, Slash! Tyler: Energy Ball! Referee: Both Jumpluff and Ursaring are unable to battle. Tyler: Just you and me buddy. Luke: I see. Go Magmar! Zoey: I’m not getting Luke’s choice. Jon: There’s a high chance Magmar knows Will-O-Wisp. Mary: The move causes Burn. Nate: Not only that, it cuts all physical attacks by half. Ralph: But Feraligatr is a physical attacker! Tyler: A Fire type? Luke: Will-O-Wisp! Commentator: With the burn, Feraligatr will keep taking damage and has its attack sliced in half. Tyler: Argh! Luke: Now, Lava Plume! Tyler: Ice Punch! Luke: Even with Feraligatr’s attack halved, it can still cancel out Lava Plume. Tyler: And that’s not all, use Aqua Tail! Luke: But how has Feraligatr got so much attack left?! Magmar, Hyper Beam! Tyler: Use Brick Break! Luke: Uh oh. Tyler: Aqua Tail! Luke: Magmar! Referee: Magmar is unable to battle. Luke: Thanks for a good fight Magmar. Tyler: So Pinsir is your final Pokemon. Luke: It won’t be easy. Commentator: The match comes down to Feraligatr and Pinsir. Whoever wins, goes through to the next round. Luke: Iron Defence! Jon: That is bad. Since the burn is cutting Feraligatr’s attack in half, raising Pinsir’s defence has made it ten times harder for Tyler. Tyler: Use Brick Break! Luke: Iron Defence has boosted Pinsir’s defence a lot. Now Swords Dance! Commentator: Not only has Pinsir’s defence been raised a lot, so has its attack. Tyler: What can I do? Luke: X-Scissor! Tyler: Argh! Commentator: Is Feraligatr coming to the end of its rope? Tyler: Feraligatr! I know you can still battle. Use Dragon Claw! Luke: Stone Edge! Commentator: Feraligatr continues to show courage and strength after a close range Stone Edge! Jon: Is that? Zoey: Torrent! Commentator: Feraligatr’s ability Torrent has been activated, powering up its water type moves. Mary: But Feraligatr only has one. Tyler: Let’s show Luke how we battle Feraligatr. Use Dragon Claw! Luke: X-Scissor! Tyler: Aqua Tail! Referee: Pinsir is unable to battle, Feraligatr wins. Tyler wins the match! Jon: Good battle. Tyler: Thanks. Luke: I thought I had you rattled. Jon: Playing a status strategy. Ralph: I liked how you two battled. Nate: I must say, I now have new ideas for my own Pokemon. Luke: Tyler is facing a girl called Zoey. Ralph: I’m facing. Ralph: I’m facing Jon! Jon: Straight after Mary? We were bound to battle against each other. Or you and Tyler were. Ralph: Let’s make it a great battle. Jon: Agreed. Nate: Looks like Ryan is in the round of 16 too. Tyler: That doesn’t surprise me. Jon: So, let’s all do our best tomorrow!
