The Northern Polytechnic was a third-level educational institution based in Holloway. Founded in 1896, it is one of the forerunners of the modern London Metropolitan University. Opened as the Northern Polytechnic Institution on 5 October 1896, with the aim of promoting "the industrial skill, general knowledge, health and well-being of young men and women", it originally provided night classes. By 1911 it was providing degree courses certified by the University of London.
