The film is a remake of the 1981 Jeff Lieberman cult classic slasher film. The film was shot in Sublimity, Oregon just like the original 1981 motion picture and filming began on November 18th, 2011 and was completed on August 25th, 2012 ready for a September 19th, 2012 fall release. The film was released on DVD and Blu-Ray disc on January 19th, 2013 and Digital Copy. The film was well received by critics who praised the cinematography, chilling performance by leading antagonist Javier Bardem and the performances of the protagonist victim youth characters as well as haunting score and realistic violence and suspence. It was also incredibly well received by audiences and grossed a huge amount despite a large audience being unaware of the original.
