The 1997 DeVilbiss 400 was a Winston Cup Series event held at Michigan International Speedway on August 17, 1997. Mark Martin had a flat tire early, but teammate Jeff Burton let Martin make up his two laps. Then, shortly after a heavily critized 33-lap caution for rain, Martin reclaimed the win and held Jeff Gordon off by two seconds for the win. With the finish, Gordon protected a 99-point championship lead on Martin. Stats
