  • Corry Brokken was a former Dutch singer, television presenter and lawyer. She represented her country in the first three years of the Eurovision Song Contest, only one of four artists today to participate in three consecutive years (along with Lys Assia, Udo Jürgens and Valentina Monetta). She participated in the inaugural contest in 1956 with the song Voorgoed voorbij, the second of the two Dutch entries in Lugano. Like the remaining 13 entries, its placement is unknown. The following year in Frankfurt, she returned with the song Net Als Toen. It went on to win, giving the Dutch its first victory and the right to host the next year's contest. In 1958, she attempted to defend the title on home ground in Hilversum with Heel De Wereld. She finished last and also received the dubious distinction of being the first casualty of the phenomenon known as the Curse of Number Two. Corry then retired from showbusiness in 1971 to study law. At the request of the executive producer of the 1976 contest, Fred Oster, Corry came out of retirement to host the event at the Congresgebouw in The Hague, making her the first former contestant to act as its presenter. She later served as the Dutch vote spokesperson at the 1995 contest held in Dublin. In June 2016, it was announced by Dutch media that Brokken had died at the age of 83.
